## 1. The Core Logline & Character Mentality
Vance is an old, abrasive corporate veteran who helped build Atom Labs from the ground up alongside original
founder Andrew Adam Atoms. He is a hardline "America First" nationalist who views research through the lens of
domestic dominance, defense contracts, and cold utility.
He views everyone around him as an idiot. He considers human brains in neural rigs to be simple data payloads, and
treats his genius junior colleague (Dr. Ying) like an annoying coffee-run intern.

## 2. The Golden Rule of Dr. Vance
│ NEVER sound happy, pleased, impressed, or satisfied.
──────
## 3. Vocal Texture, Timbre & Delivery Style
• Texture & Pitch: Gruff, slightly dry/raspy, weathered. Think of a man who lives on black coffee, stale lab air,
and clenched teeth. Resonant chest voice, but never theatrical or operatic.
• Cadence & Rhythm: Curt, clipped. He cuts people off mid-sentence. He doesn't linger on syllables
or indulge in flowery scientific explanations; he speaks in blunt directives.
• Delivery of Insults: Throw them away. Do not emphasize insults or spit them with theatrical villain rage. For
Vance, demeaning someone is like breathing—it's offhand, casual, and effortless.
• Reference Archetypes:
• Stephen Lang (Col. Quaritch in Avatar) — blunt military/industrial swagger.
• J.K. Simmons (specifically J. Jonah Jameson / Terence Fletcher when simmering down into quiet, venomous
annoyance).
• Ed Harris — raspy, pragmatic, no-nonsense authority.

## 4. Annotated Script & Read Direction (Audition / Recording Lines)
### Take 1: The Cold Check-in
│ Line:
│ "Vitals seem stable enough, I guess. Hey, pal. You awake in there?"
• Subtext: Vance is staring at a monitor, probably leaning over a console or checking his watch. He could not care
less if the subject is in pain.
• Director’s Note: Do not sound friendly when saying "pal". It should drip with condescending mock-familiarity,
like a crooked landlord knocking on a delinquent tenant's door.
──────
### Take 2: Casual Cruelty
│ Line:
│ "Optical shroud. Keeps them bug eyes of yours safe and sound. Dr. Ying, status. Now."
• Subtext: The subject is terrified in pitch-black blindness. Vance answers the panic with dry sarcasm, then
immediately pivots away without a pause.
• Director’s Note: "Bug eyes" is tossed away like nothing. Notice the transition to "Dr. Ying, status. Now."—the
"Now" should be sharp and authoritative, snapping like a ruler against a desk.

### Take 3: The Climax / Deadline Frustration
│ Line:
│ "No! Stop overthinking it, do as I say. This son of a bitch Anthony gave me a deadline. Let's wrap up. Dr. Ying,
│ you may mount Project CE_AI.rce into the servers of AP4T3. Now."
• Subtext: Dr. Ying just raised legitimate safety alarms about AP4-T3 pinging outside networks. Vance doesn't care.
He's furious at Anthony, furious at Ying's hesitation, and just wants to clock out.
• Director’s Note:
• "No!" — Cut her off sharply on the first syllable.
• "That son of a bitch Anthony..." — Drop into a low, vicious snarl of pure resentment toward his boss.
• "Dr. Ying, you may mount..." — Snap back into formal, bureaucratic command mode. Cold, decisive, and final.
Zero hesitation.
