Narrator
MAJOR ROLE

The Narrator is one of the most important voices in Happily Never After. They guide the audience through the story, introduce important moments, and help connect the events of each episode together. The narration isn't just there to explain what's happening — the Narrator should feel like a real presence within the story, with their own tone, personality, and emotional weight.

This role requires someone who is comfortable carrying longer sections of dialogue and shifting their delivery depending on the scene. Some narration will be mysterious or ominous, while other moments may be warm, reflective, curious, or even playful. Because this is an audio drama, being able to make the audience visualize a scene through your voice is especially important.

Voice directions: A clear, expressive voice with strong storytelling ability. The exact vocal range isn't as important as being able to control tone, emotion, pacing, and intensity. You should be comfortable making narration sound natural rather than simply "reading" it, and be able to make important lines feel meaningful without overacting.

Narrator Audition Lines

  1. Mysterious: “There are stories we tell because we remember them, and there are stories we remember because someone made sure we never forgot them. Sometimes, those are the same story. Sometimes, they aren't.”

  2. Warm/Reflective: “For a moment, Kariyna forgot about the Scroll, the strange archive, and every question she'd been carrying since she arrived. She was just standing beneath the lights, surrounded by people who were beginning to feel a little less like strangers.”

  3. Ominous: “The problem with finding an answer is that sometimes the answer has been waiting for you to find it. And sometimes, it has been waiting for you to look away.”

  4. Curious/Playful: “Of course, this would have been the perfect time to follow the rules. Kariyna, however, had never been particularly interested in doing things the easy way.”

  5. Emotional/Serious: “Somewhere along the way, the story stopped being about what had happened before. It became about what would happen next, and whether anyone would be brave enough to change it.”
