Granny, whose name is Tanaoh, is a major recurring character in Tandem Dark.

Granny is bold, eccentric, wild, free-spirited, sharp-tongued, and extremely funny. She has a smart mouth and absolutely no problem saying what she thinks, regardless of whether anyone asked for her opinion.

Very little embarrasses or intimidates her. She is comfortable being exactly who she is and does not spend much time worrying about what other people think of her. She can be unpredictable, playful, inappropriate, sarcastic, stubborn, and completely ridiculous when she wants to be.

Her comedy often comes from her fearlessness and brutal honesty. Granny can casually say something outrageous with a completely straight face, insult someone without hesitation, or find humor in situations where everyone else is taking themselves far too seriously.

However, Granny is much more than a comedic character.

Underneath her eccentric personality is someone deeply capable of love, nurturing, wisdom, grief, fear, anger, and vulnerability. When someone genuinely needs her, the joking can disappear and Granny can become remarkably gentle and comforting.

There are also moments in the story where Tanaoh is forced to confront emotions that she normally keeps buried. These scenes require an actor who is willing to dig deeply into the character emotionally. Crying and intense emotional performances should feel raw and genuine rather than simply sounding sad.

The contrast between these sides of Tanaoh is extremely important. She can have everyone laughing in one scene and later deliver one of the most emotionally serious performances in the story.

This is a major recurring role and potentially a long-term commitment.

Acting requirements: Exceptional emotional range is important. The actor should be comfortable with comedy, sarcasm, teasing, yelling, laughter, anger, nurturing affection, fear, grief, crying, vulnerability, and emotionally intense dramatic scenes.

For now, I don’t listen to any of the audio submissions until closer to the deadline, just because I don’t want to accidentally become biased early on. But I’ll definitely be going through everyone’s auditions once we get closer to the deadline!
