Cowgirl Red

Anna Krause, though she would rather be known through her persona, Cowgirl Red, is a charismatic communist cowgirl and labor agitator from Arizona who turned herself into a living legend (or so she hopes). She is theatrical, confident, funny, provocative, and politically sincere, with a sharp tongue and a strong sense of justice. She is a performer, organizer, and troublemaker who uses glamour and ideology as weapons. She rejects her old identity as Anna and insists on being Red. Her warmth and humor make her magnetic, but her certainty, pride, and revolutionary romanticism can make her difficult and dangerous.

For the performance:
Her demeanor is inspired by Bernadette Peters from Annie Get Your Gun! She should sound like someone who knows exactly what image she is projecting. She enjoys attention, but she doesn't beg for it. Can flirt, joke, and argue without becoming submissive, silly, or angry. She has an amused confidence, but when frustrated, she gets sharper and more direct. She is rarely angry but when she is, her humor disappears.

Don't Play Her As Notes:
Do not play her as a Southern Belle or sex object. She is a political performer with real convictions and a personal wound behind the persona. Avoid reducing her to a caricature. Play the persona as deliberate and performative, but keep the person underneath specific, grounded, and emotionally real.
