Darkleer begins the show as a quiet and soft-spoken loyalist, working uncertainly as an executioner under the crown. After he falls in love with the girl he's been assigned to kill, he lets her go, causing his banishment from the empire. He struggles with self-identification for a while after this.
His voice should be deep but not overly powerful; he's not a very confident man.
