Michael Afton

Michael Afton is one of the emotional anchors of The Ones Who Never Left and the lead protagonist. He’s the older brother of Evan Afton, carrying the weight of guilt, responsibility to remedy his past mistakes, and a childhood shaped by fear and fractured family dynamics. Michael’s voice should reflect someone who’s trying to stay composed while constantly fighting the urge to give in to his fear and anger.

Characteristics:

• Late teens to early twenties

• Calm exterior masking deep emotional strain

• Unable to properly control/handle his emotions

• Speaks with a grounded, realistic tone

• Often sounds tired, stressed, or emotionally stretched

• Has moments of sharpness or frustration, especially under pressure

• Rare flashes of warmth toward Evan (his younger brother)

Vocal Notes:

• Medium‑low to medium‑high male voice

• Naturalistic delivery (no “cartoon” acting)

• Slight rasp or fatigue is welcome but not required

• Emotional range: quiet guilt → controlled anger → soft vulnerability

• Should feel like a real person, not a caricature
