BACKGROUND:

Hippolyte’s father was a boy in France when his parents emigrated across the Atlantic, bringing with them a flair for French names. As a boy Hippolyte used to be mocked all the time for it, and year after year he endured. But he kept a record in his mind of everyone who was ever cruel to him. One day when he was just starting off as a thug in a crime family with a modicum of power, he began putting the fear of God into each of those names one by one.

People have a tendency to underestimate Hippolyte for his high voice, but they miss his dead uncaring eyes. His work proved itself. In the present he runs all bets from the Hippodrome for his crime family, wielding considerable power and oversight to ensure the smooth running of the business. He has a nose as well for who to lend money to – and who can be squeezed for a sickening interest rate. William Kane was one such person... until his untimely demise.
