BACKGROUND:

Growing up in Brooklyn, Samson found loyal companionship only within nature. While the boys and girls his age chased each other, he never saw the point. Spending all his time reading about and working with plants gave him a valuable green thumb, establishing him as an intuitive, dependable, fast-working gardener who never called in sick.

The Kanes hired Samson’s biweekly services through a recommendation from a friend, and he’s been a fixture of their house ever since. The gardens of the old mansion were large and lavish, a pure delight for Samson to tend. So much so he offered to work at a lower rate. But Charlotte Kane insisted on paying him what he was worth. When Charlotte died and William moved to a much smaller property, Samson still tended the house’s modest green space.

Samson’s earnest nature and skill with plants has earned him quite a reputation amongst the rich. The Hippodrome pays him handsomely to tend their grounds. And to ensure his services to the city, the mayor even gave him a nice office in the city’s botanic garden and established a monthly stipend in addition to payment per job. Samson, too honest for his own good, hates this however, and sends the money back to the city. If a certain detective fails to look deep enough at these records, it will look like Samson is bribing the mayor for a fancy office. But this is false.
