“Poetic license gives you freedom. With science you can solve problems by following its rules. It doesn’t interpret…it maintains a constant…a truth. When objects are dropped, they fall to the ground….they don’t float up in the air. That’s a constant. A poet may write “her feet floated across the room as she waltzed towards her lover.” Poetic license has a philosophical and interpretive view of the Laws of Nature. Science doesn’t interpret; it holds firm to its Truth, knowing full well a girl crossing a room cannot float. Truth: My mother was a single mom, on a limited budget. My best friend’s family included me in their vacations. Poetic license: I think they felt sorry for me. Truth: We went on trips together to amusement parks, campgrounds and …..the lake. Poetic license: I thought, at 16, I looked good in my first two-piece bathing suit. Truth: My friend’s dad was going to teach us how to cast a fishing line. My friend wasn’t interested. Her Mom needed to get some things from the little country store about an hour away, so she went with her mom, leaving her dad and me alone. He asked where everyone was and I told him. Poetic license: He seemed so hurt. Truth: I gave him a hug…for comfort. (beat) Hypothesis: When a fulcrum (a hug) partners with brute force (his lust) a law of nature (my trust) shatters. “
