Akabane is a theatre kid at heart, and is the mastermind not behind the killing game, but its mascot. He is relatively moral compared to the rest of the staff and takes greater issue with the killing game than most of the others (he is still a part of the killing game, so don't give him too much credit). Near the start of the killing game, he is very energetic, and works very hard as Monokuma through a mo-cap suit in order to fulfil his part of the plot. He is a relatively charismatic and charming person, and can function as some slight morale for the staff.

Vocally, any actor who wants to voice Akabane will need to also voice Monokuma in the killing game. If a voice actor is unable to do one of the two voices, then they are allowed to only audition for one of the two. However, this will heavily weaken chances of getting cast.

Monokuma's voice should be similar to, if not identical to the performance of Brian Beacock in the original Danganronpa series.

Akabane is (at least at the beginning) a happy-go-lucky and bright person, and any voice should reflect that in tone. However, he also explores a great deal of deeper emotions through growing struggles with his work on the killing game. His voice does not need to be any particular pitch, and is very flexible for any voice actor.

The sides they read from:
  • (Bright, somewhat flirtatious) “Why hello, Mr. Yasuda! So far so good on all fronts! Wouldn't you agree we did a stellar job~?”

  • (Interested, somewhat tipsy) “Huh! Whaddya know! You pretty much created an Ultimate Student! From how I keep hearing the story, I thought the headmaster hit him!”

  • (Monokuma Theatre, beginning to the tune of "Ballad of Guitaeu" from "Assassins") “*Look on the bright side, not on the sad side! Inside the bad side, something’s good~!* Ah, music is so fascinating! All you’re doing is making the air do squigglies through vibrations, and you’re telling me you can make a career out of that!? Why did nobody tell me!? Do you realize how cool it could be to say you’re a PROFESSIONAL AIR SQUIGGLER!? And don’t even get me STARTED on how those squiggle can compel people to throw their bodies around, and THAT CAN BE A CAREER TOO! Who needs weapons, or exposed wires, or puppet strings, when you can use the best tool for forcing someone to move- air squiggles!”
