This is the counter-narrator for the lead character. He is a quirky sounding older man, with a playfulness in his voice that he's had all his life. He's estranged to his daughter, but for his penance he's an excellent grandfather, very understanding and open-minded for a man who has led an otherwise conservative life.
“But I do want you to know, that past your grandmother-bless-her-soul, your mother and Suey are the strongest women I know.”
“Friend wouldn’t be the right term for old Doc… See a guy with the nickname ‘Doc’ ought to be a medic, but this fella was called Doc Holliday because he was more of a dentist...”
