Okay. My advice isn't pro-level either, but I'll see what I can do. First off, if you are recording in a room with doors or windows open, you most likely want to shut down those. With doors and windows open, sound is able to bounce more than if the doors and windows were shut causing weird echoes to happen in recording. A large room can also increase the number of bouncing sound can perform. One last tip I recommend is that if all else fails, try to reduce the number of bounces possible in the room you are recording. If you have a spot in the room where you can record and hang something like blankets over, try that. One more thing, if you have other people in the house with you, try to be not only in a small room, but as far from the background noise as possible. This does mean you may have to retire to your room by yourself for a little bit to record some lines. That's about all the advice I can give. If this doesn't work, then don't worry about it.
