Father Dean was once known as Ranger Dean, a proud and well known Ranger throughout the NCR. He was there the day the day of the Bittersprings Massacre. He led the ambush and was genuinely surprised that the ‘soldiers’ they were told were going to flee were actually young children, women and the elderly. Upon realizing this he told his men to cease fire and tried to make sure if anyone of the Great Khans they shot were still alive. That day he turned over his NCR armor and left to repent for what he had done questioning if the NCR knew they were children or did they have bad intel. Dean wandered around drinking and wallowing in his own shame until he found himself in the broken remains of a prewar Catholic Church, there, he found an intact version of the Bible and connected with it. He sobered up and began to study, finding religion as a way to rid himself of the past. He built up a Church known as the Church of Christ where he would preach and spread the word of his new religion. By the time Ace and the group got to him, a small community was built up around it where ex-Khans, raiders, ex-NCR and normal civilians gathered to find bits of hope for themselves.
