Ekamy for Old Marle
Old Marle
Old Marle is Lavendre’s “harmless” eccentric.
She is an elderly woman with soft pink shawls, unevenly pinned hair, and a cheerful, wandering way of speaking that makes most people assume she’s a loony.
She drifts through the village humming to herself, "misplacing" things she absolutely remembers placing and mumbling to seemingly no one. The townsfolk ignore her mostly, assuming she’s just another old woman. A job well done on Marle's part.
In ages past, she trained at the Priests’ Academy, where she shared a room with Rosalia She has an innate instinct for hidden threats. She was the extroverted life of the party as a student (very similar to Glinda).
Rosalia made Marle promise to protect her hometown, and the people within, including her infant daughter.
Marle accepted.
Now, in Lavendre, she has spent decades fulfilling that promise, to multiple generations.

MARLE: Well met, Elizabet! (ELIZABET How’s your back, Mistress MARLE)? MARLE: I’m not dead yet! (ELIZABET: Let’s keep it that way! MARLE: (good natured) Well, tell Darrow to charge me less for my daily loaves and we’ll see what happens. (ELIZABET: It’s a living!) MARLE: For him! [They both laugh.]
MARLE: (Casting a spell in a sing-song way, or even a quietly sung song) “Step by step on forgotten thread, wake what sleeps but is not dead.”
YOUNG MARLE (late teens): Hello? Do I have the right room? Are you Rosalia? (ROSALIA: Um...yes!) MARLE: Then I have the right room! [MARLE DUMPS HER BAGS] MARLE: (shaking hands quickly and energetically) I’m sure we’ll be fast friends! How can we not! How did your partner pairing go? Is he handsome? Mine’s an absolute troll! [She LAUGHS UPROARIOUSLY.]
