Lockhardt - Waking Husk
Lockhardt is a non-playable character, and minor boss in Fugue's End. He is the lead defense unit in charge of the protecting the various underground labs left behind by the shadowy Sarasvati Institute. Unaware of the fact that he has long been abandoned by his creators he dutifully continues to follow his directive, but his long vigil has begun to wax, and wane as a glitch in his internal system has begun granting him fleeting moments of sapience. He has reset his programming several times to return to his prime work, but each time his sapience returns, and scrambles his mind making him act far more erractic each time.
Lockhardt is a victim of his programming. He is torn between his duty, and self-realization, too scared to start truly thinking for himself. He is not truly malicious, but the constant resets have made him unpredictable. He fights the main group because it's his job, but his sentient mind understands he shouldn't do that because they pose no real threat nor care for what he is guarding, but he is unable to contain himself, and confronts the party, and is soon after defeated ending his suffering.
As a character Lockhardt tries to speak like your typical monotonous robot following orders, but when his personality starts coming through he begins to stutter, and break down as he remembers things he thought he erased. Had he accepted who he was, he'd understand he was far more interested in being a caretaker for his mechanical brothers as a repairman than just another soldier out on the frontlines.
