CHARACTER OVERVIEW:
Detective Chimp is exactly what his name suggests. He's a chimpanzee who is also a detective. I promise you read that correctly. Beneath the absurd premise, however, is one of the sharpest minds in the DC Universe. Bobo is cynical, observant, dry-witted, and often the smartest person in the room. While many people initially underestimate him because of the fact that he is a little monkey wearing a hat and a coat, that misconception rarely lasts more than a few minutes. He has a talent for noticing details others miss and tends to approach problems with equal parts logic, instinct, and exasperation.
VOICE DIRECTION:
Avoid overly cartoonish "funny monkey" voices. Bobo should sound like a legitimate detective first and a chimp second. A British accent and dry sarcasm is important. He should be capable of comedy, but the humor comes from his attitude and delivery, not a gimmicky voice. A slightly rough, weathered, weary sound works well. If anything, imagine someone who sounds perpetually annoyed that they're somehow the most competent person in the room.
