Seven Nexus (Chapters 6 & 7)
Richard Gibson for Rhett
Personality and Background
Rhett is the central character of the seventh Trial: Wrath vs. Patience. As a kid, Rhett was angry and selfish, to the point of tormenting other children. Eventually, it all came out. He was expelled, but even in a different school, the label of a bully stuck. Rhett grew up desperate to prove he’d changed, becoming a people pleaser. He works at a supermarket, trapped in a toxic workplace where he’s the one getting pushed around. He lets it happen because he believes it’ll make up for his past. But underneath the silence lies a deep, growing resentment. He’s furious that people still see him as the villain… and terrified of proving them right.
Rhett is stubborn, blunt, and sharp-edged by nature, but constantly trying to keep himself under control. He doesn’t explode in public. He swallows it and holds it in until he’s alone, where the anger finally leaks out in private, destructive ways.
Rhett’s story explores the themes of honest self-expression, self-control, and labels we’re sometimes stuck with.
Voice Type
Late 20s. Strong, masculine voice. Rough-edged, blunt, a little guarded. The delivery should be curt, dry, “don’t mess with me,” but with cracks of vulnerability. Ranges between tight and controlled “customer service voice”, people-pleasing moments of genuine effort, simmering irritation and resentment under polite words, private anger, and brief moments of real softness or shame when his guard slips.
Audition Lines
1. Tight and controlled “customer service voice” (forced politeness).
Rhett: My mistake. Won't happen again. Is there anything else I can do for you?
2. Genuine people-pleasing effort.
Rhett: Whatever it takes. I'll do it. Just... let me show you I'm not that guy anymore.
3. Simmering resentment.
Rhett: Funny how it's always my fault, isn't it? Every single time.
4. Angry, raw, a hint of desperation.
Rhett: I'm done. I am done swallowing this garbage and calling it fair.
5. Vulnerable, ashamed (guard slips).
Rhett: When I was younger, I... I hurt people. So maybe I deserve this…
