Violets for Viola (Play Read-Through)
melodiousshenanigans for Geraldine Davis
20s-30s, former "lady of the night", cabaret performer, somewhat classless, energetic, youthful, wild, smoker, drinker, feminine, high or medium voice
Role: Geraldine is the love interest of two people (and the sexual interest of even more). After running out on her abusive spouse, Geraldine seeks refuge in a small hotel. Her spouse, however, follows her to the door. When Geraldine expresses that she is through with living with him and with making him money as a prostitute, he physically attacks her. The owner of the hotel, Magdalene, intervenes and offers her a room. Geraldine takes it, but, realizing that she has to pay, must get a job at Magdalene's night club where she might just get more than she bargained for.
Would you butt me, darling?
I don't want to work the streets to earn your money and, if that means not living under your roof, so be it!
I'm just tired of this. I'm so awfully tired.
