Michelle Richards will be Sam's best friend when she enters Marble High School, after transferring to be in a safer environment away from her abusive father. Michelle, like Sam, is a transgender woman, so she understands the pains that Sam has been going through. Having been introduced to Sam through a mutual, Sam's girlfriend Jennifer, Michelle, like Jennifer, will do everything in her power to protect Sam, but unlike Jennifer, she has had direct experiences similar to Sam in terms of her trans journey that will ultimately serve to help Sam in the long run. 

For a voice inspiration, I'm thinking Mira from K-Pop Demon Hunters. Though Jennifer and Michelle are both assertive when needed, Michelle takes it one step forward. She moves heaven and earth, metaphorically speaking, to protect a fellow trans woman, and that involves going quite assertive, but she can go soft when needed.
