The character of Viaus Vistaria is a legendary magic assassin from the world of Elder Scrolls. He is cunning, charismatic and woefully indifferent to any opinion other than his own. The setting of his story takes place in the fortress of ice, where he and six other wizards studied magic under the watchful eye of the legendary mage, Shalidor. 

After sometime Viaus began experimenting with mind magic in secret, and cast several runes in the towers of his fellows that slowly began to poison their minds. Eventually this drove each of them to a relative and unique madness formed through their own desires. 

Unknown to Viaus, One of the mages he drove insane eventually became a lich; a dangerous undead wizard that forgoes their soul. When checking up on the mage, Viaus is attacked by the Lich and is forced to take refuge in the Lich’s Phylactery, a sort of Horcrux like item from the Harry Potter franchise. 

Viaus and the soul of the Lich, Naravae Krymstar, spent their hundreds of years trapped in this item until the player character destroys it and releases them both upon Nirn once more. While Naravae is nought but a spirit, Viaus still walks in his physical body.

The player is then tasked with killing Viaus when his treachery and evil spellwork is revealed by Naravae’s lucid ghost, detailing that her descent into necromancy was caused by Viaus’ maddening spells. 

The player then encounters Viaus in the final act of the story where they have the option of helping them escape to the surface. Viaus explains he is laughably unconcerned with the consequences of his experimental spellwork, and often felt his work was ridiculed by the other mages of the sanctum for the magic he excelled in was labelled as little more than deceit. 

Viaus is alarmingly honest about his actions and sees no benefit from lying to the player about what transpired. He refuses to elaborate on what he’ll do once he reaches the surface, but prior to that he intends to raid Shalidor’s library and vault for the many spells and powerful artefacts that lay within.

Depending on which side the player chooses, the player will fight either Viaus or 3 Psijic Monks who have come to the Sanctum in response to the tampering of an artifact. Should the player side with Viaus, he will banish Naravae and Myravae spirits, leaving their fate unknown.

Viaus’ main character trait is his unending curiosity and wonderment, though he is easily bored.
