If you don't already know who Gerald is I'm gonna put his character bio from Sonic Channel and Shadow Gens for safe keeping.
Sonic Channel:
An ultra-genius scientist who designed the space colony ARK and created the ultimate life form, Shadow, and is said to be the “world’s finest brain.” Maria and Dr. Eggman’s grandfather.
He conducted research on immortality to cure Maria, but was captured by G.U.N. and executed after the project was frozen and covered up.
Shadow Generations:
The greatest scientific genius in history who created Shadow. Unlike his grandson, Dr. Eggman, he was a man of decent aspirations.
In addition to designing mankind’s first orbital space colony, “ARK,” he developed various machines that applied the energy of the Chaos Emeralds.
However, during a top-secret research project, a massive accident occurred, and the military intervened. Maria, his beloved granddaughter, tragically died in the turmoil, and Gerald himself was arrested.
For a reference of the voice I want you to imitate here's a playlist with all Sonic games in Japanese. Sonic X in Japanese is also a good reference.
Solebinku's Personal Direction:
Gerald himself is just a old man so that shows through his voice and dialect. So just have an old feel to him and make him sound sincere but also hurt when needed.
Japanese is a good reference for the 3 games he was in Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow The Hedgehog, and Shadow Generations.

I infer that we are in the midst of some sort of space-time anomaly… It would be better to avoid interaction with others as much as possible to prevent a time paradox from occurring.
After all this is over… I have an inkling of what comes next. Your promise to Maria is a beautiful thing. But you must not make it your sole purpose in life. When we’re gone, live for yourself. You must make the most of your potential. Then again, I’ve packed you with limitless potential, so I’m afraid it will be difficult for you to leverage it! Hoohoho!
