Tales Of Kenshi: Sakumo
Amanda B. for Katsu
Katsu
Katsu (Victory in Japanese) was a Skeleton from the days of the Old Empire.
She was a ruthless Shinobi within Cat-Lon’s Empire, known for her skills in martial arts and assassinations, she was a scourge on those few human rebellions that tried to make a foothold during the Empire’s reign. However, due to her ruthless nature she was regarded as a monster by some of her allies within the Empire, most notably, Masamune who disapproved of her methods of extermination and control. Her pride did not let Masamune make such comments and so forth a duel took place between the two Skeletons. However, Masamune was a much more skilled and merciful warrior and when he decided to spare her life, she took his mercy as weakness and in doing so tried to attack him once he was walked away, but her hate was her downfall as Masamune sunk a blade into her chest and pulled his sword upwards, cutting her in two.
She fell to the ground, trying to move but she felt her final moments making its way, too much damage was done to make a recovery, so she put her intellect and power all into hibernation. Burn, Katsu’s mentor and partner, found her after the battle and took her to a repair bed to try and mend what was left of her, but nothing could be done as protocols within her systems prevent any tampering. Burn kept her top piece with him for many years, leaving the life of the Empire to protect her and tend to her, as he believed she would recover one day.
However in time, her body too was rusting away and drastic measures had to be made, the only useable and mendable parts of her left not bound by rust or age was her left arm. With no options, he bound her machine spirit and mind within that area and kept her attached to a generator. Within these times he would hear faint jitters and groans of gears within that arm, her soul still alive. At times Burn considered mutilating himself just so he could have her back but he knew her rage would infect his machine spirit and he would not be the kind man he once was, but a mutant of machine spirits and their minds would leave to degradation of intense decline.
As the story reach present, Burn has come to accept the loss of Katsu, still protecting her arm as he promised himself he would, but a human Samurai warrior, Sakumo, would meet the old retired bounty hunter who had nothing left but time to spend and the two would speak in friendly terms. Burn would see that Sakumo might have been someone he needed to meet as Sakumo was missing his left arm. Seeing the soul of youth, rage and desperation, he gifted the arm of Katsu to Sakumo, in hopes that both Sakumo and Katsu would find peace and justice in this new world, one trying to avenge what was taken and another to accept what has come.

"A human? Burn put me with a human? If I had his throat here I'd crush it into dust!"
"You should tell him to pray to his God, ask him if Okran will save him from your boot in his throat."
"Rage... it is all I've felt since I was destroyed... rage... I never got to tell Burn how much I liked his eyes... all because I felt rage... Did your daughter know you loved her before you were consumed by rage...?"
