Knights of Kor-Pilot
FunVoice_house for Paul
In my opinion, Paul is the strongest character in the pilot, and one of my top 3 personal favorites. It is very important to knock him out because about half the pilot is centered around him. Paul was once royal, and as a kid, he left it behind for greater things. At about 22, he was captured and put under the worst possible torture imaginable. He is seen as a very old man chained up in his first appearance, and is seen at various different ages in a flashback sequence. At his old age, he seems like a sick man who can barely even talk, and in some moments when his emotion is heightened, he has to yell over it. As a kid, he had unbelievable dreams, and is very outgoing, although it begins to fade the older he gets, as the cruelty of reality seeps and destroys his innocence. (Anyway, you can try for both the young and old parts; there will be 2 paragraphs, but you can also just try for one, it can be the same person doing both, or just 2 people, it is just up to who does it the best.)
Paul: (Paul stiffens and talks very strongly) Then why is it that you get up every morning? Why is it that you go through all of that struggle, to excuse the end of your life? (screaming through his sick-sounding voice) For what purpose, child? (softens) The world is not fair; that is absolute. But this pain and suffering, 56 years of it, 56 years is not just a story I created to kill myself in a measly hole. I have seen Smart men, Strong men, Stupid men, Weak men, Noble men, and Normal men. But in the end of the day, they all shared one thing in common, they died here like a pig in a pen. Is that what we are, pigs for the slaughter? I have made so many friends, comrades, and enemies. I watched them get old, kill themselves, or even get themselves killed. Yet you sit here talking about drinking piss and eating shit, and you want to kill yourself. (he explodes once more) You OAF, the piss and shit is the best of it, be grateful they don't starve you. (gruntily) You ask me why I live, because all of that pain, what was it for, for me to just be a little rat to test poisons? (the loudest he has been yet) NO, I REFUTE IT! (as he yells, he sounds like he is on the verge of tears) I am not like the rest of them, destined for the slaughter; I am not some inconsequential pawn. (Even louder) I refuse to accept death until I find a purpose. What is that purpose? I don't know. But if that purpose is looking for a purpose that would be ok, but I won't lose my strength until that day I find peace. (he lowers his tone a bit,) The pain, the death, my friends. They will not be in vain.
Paul: From a young age, I knew what the purpose of my life would be: I would travel the world and map it out. Today I turned 18, and have decided to leave home. My parents were disappointed, and my beloved little sister wanted to come. To leave the country is to disown the royal family, so I will start from scratch, but here is to the start of my adventure. Living here, I mapped out and wrote about the culture of Grivantas -cultural information in the back of the book-, now by foot I am off to Helm.
