Although he didn't do anything expect inquired what skills Derek had. Derek informed him of his high intellect, which soon lead him to become there computer guy and hacker. Only after Derek had him agreed to his protection in the gang and revenge against his father and to buy off his siblings.

After a year of being with Carter, Derek eventually looked up to Carter as like a father figure. After having his affairs resolved he wanted to continue to be by Carter's side. Which he has been to this day.
