John is a deeply conflicted individual, torn between his yearning for a peaceful life and his resentment toward the oppressive systems that deny him that dream. His personality is marked by intense stubbornness, emotional isolation, and a refusal to accept advice, even from trusted allies. This self-destructive independence often causes him to worsen his own problems, and although he feels guilt for his mistakes—especially those tied to his violent past in New Bostin—he refuses to confront them or believe in the possibility of change or redemption. He views apologies as manipulative and second chances as illusions, which fuels his mistrust of others and distances him from meaningful connections.

With time and the support of Seraphina, Adrion, and William, John gradually begins to confront his inner turmoil and accept himself. Though his path to redemption is filled with doubt and social resistance, he gains better control over his anger and becomes more composed, resembling the more peaceful version of himself before his rise to power. He remains wary of using his ability, fearing it could drag him back into old patterns, but he shows greater emotional maturity and restraint. Despite his internal struggles, John retains a sarcastic charm and a fondness for bubble tea, small but consistent aspects of his identity. His fear of ghosts and jump scares also reveals a more human, vulnerable side beneath his intense and often intimidating exterior.
