Feel free to add feedback after hw due date. I am astounded by everyone's submissions. For real, some of you I feel should be in VA 1001 lol. See yall on Thursday!
Way to go Brian! You did a great job staying consistent with your volume! Nicely done!
Thank you Erin!
Awesome job, man! You killed the articulation as well! I was definitely slurring some words here and there, haha.
Haha same, thank you!
Hey Brian! As Erin pointed out, you keep up your volume consistently! I can tell that you have some boom to your voice that is going to really rock with scripts that will require power. I’d even say you could project even more with this performance! That said, be careful not to overdo it when you're pushing out your voice.
There are a few areas in your read where I can hear your voice lose some of its projection and become breathy. Since your voice is naturally “boomy”, you push out a lot of air when you attempt to project, and that will result in you losing your projection and also running out of air before you reach your next point of pause where you would be able to naturally take that couple of seconds to breathe before continuing. The breathing exercises that were introduced in the first class are going to help you a lot with your breath control! Once you’ve built up your stamina and diaphragm control, you’ll be able to project like a champ!
Let’s talk about the performance. There were a few areas where I felt you clicked right into the script. You had nice enthusiasm and a welcoming tone suited for the read, namely at the beginning and end sections of the script. The middle section is where that natural flow fizzled out. You hit a couple of flubs and lost focus on what the intention of this script was. This is why we ask you to keep those stumbles in for this HW submission, because now I can help you understand how to handle those flubs.
If you’re reading a script and you hesitate because you lose your place or you stumble on a word or two, stop reading, take a breath, and restart. Don’t just push through when you flub. Stop, regain yourself, and pick up from the beginning of the sentence or wherever you would be able to cut in naturally. This is the best practice for how you should react when you stumble over a word or fumble your performance/read.
- Mina Marie, CCTA
Hi Mina! Thank you so much for for your feedback! I really appreciate you breaking everything down. I definitely felt myself losing a bit of control with breath and projection in the middle, so your notes make a lot of sense. I’ll start focusing more on those breathing exercises and pacing myself better during reads. Also, I’ll work on getting more comfortable with stopping and resetting.
Excited to keep improving. Thanks again!
Best,Brian
