Personality Characteristics

Intellectual Pride: Bartholomew believes his education and careful reasoning can outsmart even magical forces. He's read about djinn and wishes in his studies and thinks he's clever enough to avoid the typical pitfalls.

Methodical Nature: He doesn't rush into decisions. Even with a magical lamp, he wants to understand the rules and consequences first. This shows both wisdom and a need to control outcomes.

Ambitious but Not Greedy: He wants wealth and status, but not out of pure greed - more from a desire to elevate himself in society and prove his worth. He sees these as deserved rewards for his intelligence.

Courage Masked by Caution: When warned about war, he hesitates not from cowardice but from reasonable fear. However, once committed, he shows true bravery and honor.

Tragic Nobility: His fatal flaw is believing he can have everything without consequence. Yet when faced with the price, he accepts it with dignity rather than trying to escape through his final wish.

Voice description:
  • male adult
  • [Bitter and desperate] Curse this wretched fate! Born to nothing, raised on scraps, whilst lesser men inherit kingdoms! [Clutching the lamp] But here... here lies my salvation. That fool merchant knew not what he sold - babbled of spirits and wishes like a madman in his cups. [His eyes gleaming with avarice] If but half his tales be true, then I shall rise above them all! No longer shall Bartholomew Fitzwilliam grovel for table scraps!

  • BARTHOLOMEW: [Slamming his fist on the desk] Immortality then! Wealth, status, and eternal life!

  • BARTHOLOMEW: [Long pause, staring at his reflection in a mirror - seeing the uniform, the medals, the stranger he has become] [His voice changing, becoming quieter, more human] I... I have spent my life thinking only of myself. Coveting what others possessed. Despising those I deemed beneath me. And now... now I shall lead brave men - better men than I - into slaughter. Men with families who love them. Men who never schemed for another's downfall. [Turning to face the djinn] For my final wish... I wish for the courage to protect those men as best I can. To think of their lives before my own safety. To die, if die I must, in such a manner that their sacrifice has meaning. Let me become... let me become worthy of the trust they'll place in me.
