Portia's Call From Home
Higrizzy for PJ
Portia "PJ" Jenkins, 22 years old, a Scorpio. She was adopted when she was a baby. She is studying for her master's in history. She got her bachelor's in history and gender and sexuality studies last semester. She works at her parents' grocery store. She is anxious, quirky, painfully insecure, and has no idea where her identity lies. She can be blunt when she doesn't filter herself and she has a habit of not thinking before speaking. She often goes on rants whether it's to other people or herself. She feels very stuck in her life and wishes she could hang out with her friends more often, but they are too busy with classes so she's usually alone with her own thoughts.
Voice Type: Deadpan, quirky, anxious, blunt
References: Example 1 for casual voice. Example 2 for casual voice. Example for panicked voice.
Acting Specifications: I chose real people speaking in a natural setting in my references to showcase that I'm looking for voices that come off as authentic. With this character, she has many highs and lows. I need someone with the range to capture anger, sadness, and happiness. She is both the drama and the comic relief in this series so you need to be able to be real with her anguish, but also nail the delivery on comedic lines. She often delivers deadpan lines, but during her panicky moments she becomes more dramatic for comedic effect.
Actor Specifications: I originally wanted a black voice actor, but I'm opening it up to all poc. Identity is very important in this series and race plays a part in that. Unfortunately, this role isn't open for non-poc actors. Age 20+
Warnings For Role: Swearing, sexual references, dark humor (not overtly offensive), depression, mental breakdowns, negative self talk, anxiety, screaming. PJ is in every scene of the script, even if it's a couple of lines, so there is a lot of dialogue for this role. Be sure you can handle that before auditioning.
PJ screams at least once per episode. Give me your best horror movie scream at the end of your audition lines.

(panicked) Ohhh, my stomach hurts. Why is it so hot in here? I'm about to have a panic attack. My anxiety can't take this. Why wouldn't they tell me? Now I have to wait hours! But it's okay because everything is fine. Don't be so negative. They're probably not even going to bring up aliens.
(sad) They say they love me and it feels like a slap in the face. I don't believe them. People say it, but don't mean it. It feels like they're lying to me. And the "I'm proud of you." For what? For accomplishing nothing? It's just all lies and I can't stand hearing it.
(deadpan) If this is about therapy again, I told you I already went to three therapists. They all talk in a condescending tone and kept trying to dig into my personal life.
