Jack is a man, 33 years old.  He has been through alot in his 3 years in self-exile, ranging from the murder of his father, to his life falling apart after, to nearly putting his best friend and girlfriend in danger, etc.  In the story Jack is asking himself, "Is it my destiny to be Earth's savior?", a conflict he must solve himself.
