Dain’s life changed forever one fateful night when the howls of wolves turned into the unearthly roars of werewolves. Born to a humble farming family on the edge of a sleepy village, Dain was just a boy when the attack came. His family home was reduced to ash, his parents slaughtered before his eyes, and his left eye was clawed out during the chaos. Dain barely escaped with his life, dragging his wounded younger sister, Lyra, into the woods. But Lyra’s wounds were more than mere scratches—they carried the curse of lycanthropy. Despite their bond, the transformation began to take hold of her. In her lucid moments, Lyra begged Dain to leave her, fearing what she might do when she lost control. Reluctantly, Dain parted ways with his sister, the guilt of abandoning her forever etched into his soul. Alone and orphaned, Dain’s survival was a daily struggle. At 16, he was conscripted into the local militia during an era of escalating skirmishes between rival nations. His missing eye earned him ridicule from his peers and dismissal from his commanders, who saw him as a liability. But Dain was determined to prove them wrong. Fighting tooth and nail, Dain quickly became known for his resilience and ingenuity. Though the musket was the weapon of the era, he developed a preference for close-quarters combat, wielding a silver-lined mace, its weight and craftsmanship perfect for smashing through both enemies and the supernatural threats he despised. His shield, painted in fiery hues of red and orange, bore the image of a black wolf—a grim reminder of the creature that had destroyed his family and scarred his soul. His experience surviving against werewolves gave him an edge in ferocity and adaptability. Dain’s wrath became both his greatest strength and his deepest flaw. Though he kept his emotions buried beneath a stoic exterior, his fury drove him to excel in battle. Commanders soon recognized his tactical mind and unwavering resolve, and his comrades came to rely on his fearlessness. During his military career, a harrowing incident left a lasting mark on Dain. His garrison was poisoned by contaminated rations, leaving him bedridden for a week while others succumbed to the illness. From that moment, Dain refused to trust food he hadn’t prepared himself. He honed his cooking skills, turning it into both a necessity and a passion. After years of service, Dain left the army and turned to mercenary work, protecting trade caravans and small settlements. His reputation as a reliable, no-nonsense protector grew, but so did his hatred for werewolves. Every encounter with the creatures reignited his childhood trauma, yet he never hesitated to face them, his silver-lined mace a grim reminder of his past. Eventually, Dain retired from the life of bloodshed and opened a tavern he named The Wolfsbane. Located on a well-traveled trade route, the tavern serves as a haven for weary travelers and a quiet nod to his vendetta against the creatures that destroyed his family. The walls are adorned with relics from his mercenary days—trophies, maps, and a silver bullet he keeps for emergencies.
