Christian Gaughf for Lucullus

Voice Actor
Voice Actor
Lucullus
open
Unpaid

Payment: $20 This is a *real* paid role. (I've paid 137 people in my projects. Payment is sent immediately after you are cast for the role)

Note:

I've cast and recast this role about three times. All three actors did very well in portraying the character but the voices were either too gruff and hardened or the Latin words were mispronounced. All three actors were compensated.

Character:

Accent: North-American. (No exceptions)
Tone: Medium to medium/deep (Baritone)
Occupation: Soldier
Personality:
Cold and elegant. Outwardly friendly but not warm. What makes this character challenging is that he's a soldier with respect but he should not sound like a grunt, should not sound like a leader, should not sound like a wartorn warrior and shouldn't sound like a mentor. What makes this personality difficult to do is that he needs to sound condescending/racist/sexist/arrogant/condescending but...he is keeping form..trying to be polite and professional, etc.  Must sound polished, methodical.

    {Shocked} (Genuinely
    sad) (His friends were killed)

    I warned them about
that truck weeks ago. Always be prepared for any hazardous radiation I said.

    {Ave is pronounced as
    AH-wei; Ah-way)

    Ave. Are you ready to
    head upriver?

    {KAI-zar} (Kai like
    sky) (zahr like a czar)

     Caesar has
permitted you to leave, but not with the Platinum Chip in your possession.
Relinquish it and you may go.

    To my knowledge, this
is the first time {KAI-zar} Caesar has ever summoned one of the Dissolute to
see him. Not even tribal chieftains receive this honor.

    (Cursor like mouse
    cursor)

    I am Cursor
{Looh-kuh-liss} Lucullus, and my orders are to escort you to the Legion's camp
at Fortification Hill. Are you ready to go?

    {LATIN}
    {"wallae"} Vale.

    (Condescending)
    (Arrogant)

They live in squalor, unrestrained by morality,
lacking moderation, temper, and self-control. Even worse are the Profligates, the subtype of Dissolute
one finds this side of the river. (Prawf-leh-gets)

    (Condescending)
(Arrogant) (Sexist) (but trying to be polite to a woman) (talking to a woman)

    Women are physically
and intellectually inferior to men. Their role is to bear children and ensure
the survival of our species....Not to say that all women are equally incapable.
I trust {KAI-zar} Caesar will find a worthy use for you.

    (Pride in his
    words)

    You'll be meeting
face-to-face with the mighty {KAI-zar} Caesar himself, founder of the Legion,
    conquerer of 86 tribes

    (Sounds amazed) (the
person you are escorting will be seeing your leader and very few are granted
    this honor)

    You must be
remarkable, for {KAI-zar} Caesar to take such an interest in you.

Voice and acting would work for the character but the words are mispronounced. There's a sound link with the proper Latin enunciation. There are issues with the mic. The Blue Yeti has to be done a particular way as it can lead to strange room effects. I have a Blue Yeti and used to use one. The issue with the recording is that there's a lot of reverb around. I'd recommend the following settings if you wouldn't mind. a. Turn the knob GAIN to 25% b. Record in either a closet or some place where there's fabric to absorb the sound. c. Record closer to the mic so the mic picks up more of your voice rather than the room as condenser mics (especially the Yeti) picks up a lot of sound around you. If you wouldn't mind, could you try rerecording with the changed mic settings and with the revised Latin words.

    Christian Gaughf

Once upon a time, I use to have a sound proof studio until a tornado decided to ruin that for me. I'll see what I can do. What words did I mispronounce?I thought I said them all correctly.

Sure it's here. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_WqsiLWP_nLZEx4ckoxbWhycG8/view?usp=sharing When all else fails, there is one cheap method that works without fail. The blanket over the head. (this is not a joke) It costs nothing and performs better than any sound booth in the world. Try it once and compare the sound. night and day.

        Christian Gaughf

Oh God. I thought I'd never have to do that again. I used the blanket trick starting out. Guess I'm back to square one. Heat stroke, here I come. Do you want me to send the retake to you, or just reupload it here?
