Mr. Sweeney is the first character introduced in chapter one, by getting after Sophie for zoning out--a real oaf, if you ask me. He is one of her high school teachers--assumingly her history teacher since he took his class to a history museum--and has a very nasal voice. He would not be considered as a very nice character in the series, but then again he only appears in the first chapter very briefly. He is still important though because his own dialogue is the opening line for the beginning of chapter one.
(Nasal, stern) "Miss Foster! Have you decided that you're too smart to pay attention to this information?"
(Nasal, rude) "Then perhaps you'd like to explain why you were listening to your iPod instead of following along?"
(Arrogant, underestimating Sophie, nasal) "Since you've decided you're above this lecture, why don't you give it? Explain to the class how the Lambeosaurus differs from the other dinosaurs we've studied."
