Christina Chung for Beth March
The third March sister, Beth is very shy and quiet. She always tries to please other people and is concerned with keeping the family together. The best portrayal to reference is Claire Danes in 1994.
LINE CONTEXTS:
1. Beth is dying and trying to comfort Jo in this moving speech.
2. Beth is a bit nervous here; Mr. Laurence has invited her to play the piano in his house but she is shy (modern day, we'd call it social anxiety) and is nervous.
3. Beth confides in Jo that she knows she is dying.
- female young adult

I’m not afraid anymore. I can be brave, too. I don’t think I was meant to live long. I was never like the rest of you, making plans about the great things I’d do when I grew up. I've never been much use anywhere but home. I never wanted to leave it. That will be the hardest part, and leaving you all. I'm not afraid, but I know I will be homesick for you, even in heaven.
I’m Beth. I love it dearly, and I’ll come, if you are quite sure no one will hear me or be disturbed.
It’s like the tide going out, Jo. It goes slowly, but it can’t be stopped.
