I think you bring up a great point about needing to know details on what you need to improve to get to that certified standard. I'm always impressed by the sound of blue yeti mics. I don't use one, but hearing them around the site, I've endorsed them to friends of mine that make YouTube videos because I think they're the most bang you can get for your buck. You're audio is a prime example of this. I can hear the room little, but other than that it sounds great. You might want to try putting foam in the corners of the room because a lot of sound can get trapped in the corners to bring out too much bass(google bass traps to get an idea of what I mean). The thing with treating a room is trying to get rid of those annoying standing sound waves that bounce between flat, hard surfaces. Out in front of you is the least of your worries with a cardioid mic pattern, but it sounds like you figured that out. Keep at it. I think you're on the right track.

Thank you very much! I'll definitely consider foaming the corners.

Elaboration, elaboration, Elaboration. Mods want to quickly get through all the quality verifications and that's fine, but I kind of feel they might be doing stuff like: 1. Not sorting by Created at, so bad auditions may show up on top if someone voted/commented/casted/rejected you. 2. Not adequately checking every section for completeness. 3. Not properly giving the time to make SURE every person who gets the green badge, deserves it. Mods should probably take their time to make sure whoever gets this verification deserves it. I've heard people with your sort of mic quality having verified, and while that may change from now on, it might be that the mod who was doing that was a different mod than the one(S) who were in charge of your thing. Inconsistency among audio verification is bad, and there should be a standard. Would I personally give you the OK? Probably not, but I would certainly take the time to give you detailed reasoning as to why I rejected you so that you can PROPERLY improve your quality. For example, have you tried recording in your closet? While foam is a fantastic step to reducing background noise and reverb, that might not be enough. You also may need to do some post production work like noise reduction, EQ-ing, and limit compression that can be done in even audacity (but could be done better in programs like Audition, which you can figure out how to get yourself). In fact, some post production work will INFINITELY improve the quality of your work as it is as of now. Could you even make it to verified quality if you figure this out? Yes, I think so. Enough for the bare minimum anyway. Also yes, there's a lot of +18 paid projects and not too many paid hobby ones, but in a way, that's probably because the people who want to dish out money for their projects probably dont want 10 year olds recording on their xbox headsets in a big empty room auditioning for a part. And that's not to knock them. I've had FANTASTIC actors audition for my work, but if the quality of their microphones are not consistent with the quality I want to put out, I wont hire them. (Though I always take into consideration other factors due to personal preference and can sometimes gleen over a slightly poorer sound in lieu of better acting/voice work, though even I have a limit.) Having worked on both the acting and directing end of this site, I hope maybe my opinion could give you a tiny bit of insight, even if some of it is mere speculation. I do hope things go better for you and that you one day join the ranks of verified quality.

Thank you very much for your long and detailed reply. I have tried recording in my closet, but I physically do not have the space. There are two bars in my closet completely filled with clothes, and the closet itself is very small. I don't have enough space to put my computer down or put my microphone on a flat surface. Do you have any suggestions for post production software for me? I'm on a Mac, so my options for software are a bit limited compared to PCs. Thanks again!

I'm going to pm you suggestions. I don't have time now, but I totally want to help you out. VA's gotta help their own.

This really brings up some good points. When I lost my audio verification, the feedback I was given wasn’t particularly helpful. I was told something along the lines of ‘Your audio quality is good, but not quite there yet’. Of course, I would have liked it if the mod had told me what was stopping my audio from being ‘there’. It could have been a bit more polite, and it would have been helpful if they’d told me what was stopping my audio from being good enough. On the topic of improving your audio, I also use a mac and I have 2 different programs for editing. Firstly, imovie. I know it’s not the best, but I find it easy to sort audio on there, there’s also some different audio filters that can take out some background noise. Secondly, audacity. It’s really easy to remove background noise on there, look up some youtube tutorials. But there are other things you can do to improve your audio while you're recording. When I’m recording, I always have my settings open. In the sound section, it’s easy to adjust the sensitivity of the microphone. I constantly adjust the sensitivity when I’m recording, (lowering it when I’m yelling, and increasing it when I’m quiet.) it really makes a difference. And lastly, this is a bit of a last-ditch effort, that I try to avoid using. You can throw a blanket over yourself and the mic. It reduces any echoing, and can make the audio just sound a bit better in general.

Ironically even though I handle the vast majority of verification requests, I don't think I've ever gotten one of yours. Also oh my god my heart! You're way too sweet about all this I feel so bad it took us this long to hear you out! Please message me so that I can help you get verified! In regards to what you were told, I'm guessing that was an automatic email (if I'm being honest I didn't even know that was a thing, I thought people were told why they got denied and they were told what moderator denied them that way they could message the moderator). Also I agree that we really shouldn't allow certain types of projects to be in the Pro section (we're still figuring out what we want from it, hearing everyone out is really helpful).

That's funny! I've sent in five requests total, and I think I may have sent in one that was never approved/denied because it was when it first started up and no one was officially moderating the requests. I'll totally message you! ^-^ Thank you so much!

The verification system opened up before there was a moderator team so originally Buford was trying to slowly work his way through the thousands of requests. Maybe I could be wrong and he already planned on making a moderator team, but I thought that was the reason why he made one. Once he made us mods we went through the few thousand requests that piled up. Afterwards (sorry, should have done this first) we made a set of standards and I pretty much did the rest of the sites verification for every month afterwards. And now the moderator team has increased in size and we will be splitting the work evenly so it's not always gonna be me, it could be any of the mods.

That makes sense. Thank you for all the work you do, and for working with me on the issue!
