- A closeted lesbian woman living in the 1950s, in a lavender marriage with Lewis (who is also LGBT)
- Wary, yet confrontational.
- It’s her first time at the nightclub; and though she‘s enjoying herself, she can’t shake off the fear of getting caught.
- Fears: Her secret getting out, and ruining her future.
-Wants: To address the very real threat of being caught in a police raid, and to maybe have an enjoyable night out.

Context: Phyllis has just found out that there’s a chance the club could be raided and is trying to convey the potential danger they’re in to Lewis.
Acting Notes: Delivered in a slightly sarcastic, confrontational manner. She’s upset that Lewis didn’t tell her about the risk.
Line #2: “Lewis, our lives could be ruined-”
Context: Phyllis is practically pleading with Lewis to at least acknowledge the elephant in the room.
Acting Notes: Delivered anxiously, beseeching, and slightly hushed.
