BASIL's HEADSPACE counterpart is rather cheery, yet shy and humble. He is quick to forgive, as shown with his encounter with BOSS after hide-and-seek, and is rather empathetic in nature.[9][10][11] BASIL is also quite friendly, and his shyness seems to stem from thinking lowly of himself and putting others' needs above his own.[12][13]

He's very sentimental, keeping memorabilia of his friends and happy memories through photos, and planting flowers that remind him of his friends.[14] BASIL notably shows great care to plant flowers with flower language, each one corresponding to how he sees his friends.[15][16][17][18] His empathy stretches to his plants as well, showing a lot of worries when they're in danger of being hurt, and talking to them as he would with his friends.[19] It is noted that he avoids conflict due to his kind, sentimental demeanor.[20] He doesn't learn to battle, although he eventually does with enough encouragement from his friends during the console-exclusive BASIL RUSH event.

Compared to HEADSPACE BASIL, his FARAWAY counterpart is more anxious and sensitive overall. This more melancholy demeanor is most likely the result of a deep depression over the aftermath of MARI's death combined with AUBREY and her friends' bullying further whittling down his self-esteem. Due to being a witness to MARI's murder, it can be inferred that he suffers from guilt or worse, possibly in the form of SOMETHING.

It can be noted that when BASIL grows deeply attached to someone, he can develop a strong sense of devotion and protectiveness toward them: his desire to protect SUNNY and their secret led him to go as far as to subject himself to the HOOLIGANS' bullying and deliberately withdraw from his friends for multiple years, the latter shown by how he never lets himself cry in front of others, always locking himself away in either his room or the bathroom. From this, BASIL can be described as immensely selfless and loyal, doing everything he can to protect SUNNY from any harm no matter how much he hurts himself in the process.[21][22]

Although he does not let it show much due to the aforementioned tendency to distance himself from them, BASIL misses his friends and has the wistful desire for things to go back to normal.[23] This could explain his sense of comfort behind physical possessions making him recall pleasant memories, something that he himself reflects on.[24] In spite of his depression, BASIL continued to dedicate himself to gardening to the point that some of the flowers prior to the incident lived up to the present day,[25] perhaps indicating that he immersed himself in the hobby as a distraction of sorts. It is only when his GRANDMA fell dangerously ill that he began neglecting to take care of his plants.[26]
