Commander Zavala is a Titan Guardian and the leader of the Last City’s Vanguard, as well as a supporting character within this story. In this timeline, the once proud and determined Zavala has become a bitter and angry old man after losing his fellow Vanguard members to the forces of darkness. With no hope left, he remains in the rubble of the last city, unable to fight due to his missing leg and lack of light. However, this all changes with the arrival of Elisabeth and Ana Bray who come bearing a plan to capture the Traveler and force it to restore the light.

Zavala is the definition of a quintessential Guardian; doing something as big as risking his life to save the citizens of the last city to something as small as taking time out of his day to teach new recruits how to knit damaged armor. While he may be haunted by aspects of his past, he always keeps his eyes forward to the future, however, this alternate timeline Zavala is far from that man. He still retains his determined demeanor but with a much more rightfully cynical view of the world after the deaths of his closest friends and allies. Being able to capture his deterministic nature alongside his newfound cyclical gruffness is essential to this role.
