Cardan McGuire, like many other residents of Redstone City is one of the few survivors of the undead outbreak that occurred but before that Cardan was an average 18 year old with a full scholarship to her dream university. She had her whole future ahead of her and a burning ambition to help change the world but when the outbreak occurred, everything she worked her entire life for came crashing down. She found herself at one the military's safe zones around the city where she noticed a lot of the unfair treatment of the civilians there which made her want to help them. Having snuck out of the safe zone and gone into the dangerous streets of Infected, Cardan would because Leader of The Ignited, a group dedicated to helping survivors throughout the city and her first couple members would be other young adults Bronwen and Emrys. With those two by her side Cardan has crafted a new future for herself in this New World. Cardan is a bright, caring and brave person. In the beginning of the series, she finds being around Emrys very awkward since he doesn’t trust her - so she uses sarcasm and humor as a way to talk to him.
