The late mother of Ayame Kimura. She loved her daughter more than anything until one dreadful day when Ayame, thinking that she would be helping her mother, killed Shizuko's abusive boyfriend with his shotgun. After that, Shizuko hated Ayame and tried to stay away from her, becoming verbally and mentally abusive herself. She had taken to prescription drugs to cope and had a complete mental breakdown until one day, when Ayame had gone to an appointment, she killed herself with the same gun that killed her boyfriend.
Shizuko had a long line of abusive boyfriends after her husband had left her. Ayame had always remembered Shizuko being in tears after her boyfriends would leave her. Despite how much she fought this last one, though, she really did love her.
(To Kazuo, argumentative) Well, I don't know what you expect me to do. I can hardly afford to keep our house, let alone feed you every god damn time you're hungover. I am sick of the way you treat me like I'm your slave. You want your stupid coffee and eggs? Go out, get a job, and buy them yourself. (To Ayame who had been sitting there.) Ayame, get your shoes, we're going to Uncle Atsushi and Aunt Kiyomi's house.
(To Ayame, cuddling her.) You know, you look just like your daddy. So beautiful. You even have his eyes, you know that? I don't miss him, though. I'm just happy that I have you. Promise me you'll never leave me? (Ayame promises.) Thank you. (Trying to hide that she's crying.) Mommy promises she'll never leave you either, okay? You're going to grow up to be happy and not live like I do. I promise.
(To Ayame, intoxicated and afraid. After Kazuo's death.) You...I told you not to come in here. Get out! (Ayame tries to apologize.) No! You killed him! I said get out! You're going to burn in Hell for this, do you know that? Do you have any idea what you've done?! (Ayame tries to approach Shizuko.) No! Go!
