A young woman from 1930's England, she comes from a working class background in London and has been thrust into a much more middle/upper class life. Maria starts as an innocent and slowly decends into madness from numerous causes. Maria only has a few scenes but there is an episode that is based on her diary and is in the style of an epistolary, so has about 9 pages of diary entries to perform.

September 10th 1933, I went to Dunwich House today to speak with Thomas, mostly about the ring I saw yesterday. He didn’t expect me to come and so, luck did not shine down on me that day, as he was not home
think the arms in the walls are comforting me in my sleep. The trio keep my company in the mornings as always but they are there at sunset now too, maybe they are always there, I didn’t always really look out at those times.
You were here, soaked to the skin, babbling beyond comprehension, I couldn’t get anything that made sense out of you. You screamed about an island, about a creature and a man I think
