Background
One of the few survivors from the island City-State of Rota. Rota was once the powerful rival of the Merchant Republics. However, it was the opinion of both the world only had room for one. Fortune did not favor Rota, after a series of devastating land and naval defeats, the city of Rota itself came under siege and blockade.
After a grueling 10 month siege, much of the city was ruined. Both sides had taken massive loses and the frustration of the Republic grew. Many dispute what happened next, but rumors have circulated of a great and terrible weapon being unleashed upon Rota. Many speculate on what this weapon was, or if there even was a weapon.
Regardless of the method, the end result was the same. The city of Rota was utterly devastated. Her armies destroyed, her fleets reduced to ash, her people scattered and leaderless. The wealth that was once the envy of the world was no more.
The Republic, content in the results, left the city as a ruin. A few survivors emerged, and some managed to escape. These few desperate souls arrived on the shores of the Kingdom of Galisia. Despite taking pity upon them, the Kingdom was not able to save most of them. Many perishing from wounds and illnesses that even the best physicians had never seen.
After a few weeks, only one survivor remained. An infant girl, the last of this group of refugees. She was named after a small locket she arrived with. Her true name was either lost in translation or simply not passed along in time. The previous king saw her enrolled into the Royal Academy as an act of piety.
The new King, lacking the piety and empathy of his father, noticed an opportunity to insult his least favorite former Knight, assigning her to Jaster Whitelock. On the surface, this allowed the King to appear altruistic, granting a poor orphan girl a chance at glory. In actuality, it was meant as an insult to Jaster, assigning him a low-born orphan girl from a foreign country.
However, Jaster found his new apprentice to be quite sharp, and quick to learn.
Personality/Voice
Lock remembers nothing of her people, a consequence being brought to the Kingdom at such a young age. She only knows of her people through hushed whispers and rumors. Although intelligent and a good student, her status at the Royal Academy treated her anything but. Being a low-born girl amongst the sons and daughters of lords and powerful merchants, few associated with her. She holds a grudge against those of noble blood to this day. Lock is a very bright young woman, having a natural curiosity. However, she can be quick to anger and eager to lash out.
