Jimmy is more of the "new kid on the block" working for the Daily Planet. He is new there, not as new as Clark, but he's trying to earn his place there. Following Lois Lane around, struggling to keep up with her pace.
He's agreeable, likable, a bit of a pushover and intentionally should be forgotten about by larger personalities of the Daily Planet in which Clark sees Jimmy being overlooked.

(Feeling down) "I don't fit in and now I'm going back to Yonkers with my tail between my legs and my parents are going to say, 'I told you so.' Like they always do."
"I think you're just fine. Like Superman told me, it's okay to be different and to standout!"
