Child, sex unknown
Ori is a small, faun-like "forest spirit" child. Raised by an adoptive mother, Ori is gentle, kind, inquisitive, intelligent, playful, deeply religious, and most importantly, driven. He/she is not submissive, and tends to do whatever he/she thinks is best. He/she is also impulsive and overly trusting. As the deuteragonist acting opposite Yellow, it is very important that Ori's character is strong. Ori refuses to reveal whether he/she is male or female, preferring to make a game out of making Yellow guess.

Voice: Quiet, warm, gently playful.
Should be somewhat childlike but also warm, and not high pitched. Prioritize fullness and warmth over childlike aspect. Should be neither definitively male nor female, but a female voice actor would probably be best suited. Ori has a bright personality but is not high-strung. A girly-girl Pikie Pie delivery won't work for this character. It would be good for Ori to have some sort of unusual but still easily understandable accent, but it is not absolutely required. Ori's dialogue will primarily be in English, but also sometimes speaks the native language of his/her world. Some kind of post-processing is likely.

  • [Ori is idly talking to Yellow while she travels.]
Yellow: Are you… how can I put this? Um… please don’t be offended or anything… but… are you a boy or a girl?
    Ori: …
    Ori: You can’t tell?
    Yellow: Uh…. No.
Ori (mischievously): but it’s so obvious.
Yellow: Oh, I’m sure, but I’ve never seen a light cat before, so I have no basis for comparison.
    Ori (amused): “Light cat?”
Yellow: Oh, um… well, I don’t know what you’re called, either.
Ori: I don’t know what a cat is, but I don’t think I am one.
Yellow: Yeah, it’s just… (changing the subject) are you a boy or a girl?
    Ori (mischievously, lying): It depends.
    Yellow: On what?
Ori: The season. The phase of the moon. My mood.
Yellow: You’re a sequential hermaphrodite? You change between sexes?
    Ori (mischievously, lying): Yeeeeees.
    Yellow: …You’re lying to me.
Ori (still lying): No, I’m not!
    Yellow: Yes you are!
Ori: But you’re my friend! I would never deceive you… maliciously.
    Yellow: …I have no words.
[Ori giggles for a while, then trails off and goes quiet]

  • [Ori is lost and starving, near death. She stumbles
through a thorny bush and is injured. Deliver these lines breathing
quickly and shallowly, as if suffering from shock. Emphasize weariness
    over fear.]
    Yellow: Oh! You okay?
Ori: Y-yeah, I think so… [She staggers forward] W-which way was I going?
    Yellow: Straight ahead.
Ori (out of breath): Oh… right…
Yellow: Ori, when’s the last time you had something to drink?
Ori: …Don’t remember… all the water’s gone bad.
    Yellow:
Oh crap, uh… [Sound of flipping through a book] Shock, shock,
shock…okay, Ori, you’ve gotta keep moving and stay awake, okay? We have
to find someone to help. Try to take deep, slow breaths.
    [Ori mutely starts moving forward]
Yellow: Talk to me, Ori! Uh… tell me about your home.
    Ori:
    …live in a cave… at the edge of a marsh… there’s a hole in the ceiling,
so it’s sunny… lots of fruit trees around… Mother and I built--
[Ori falls down a ledge and lays there].
    Yellow: Ori!
    Ori: Have to rest… just a moment…
Yellow: No, Ori, you can’t stop. I know it’s hard, but you have to keep moving!
    Ori: Sorry… can’t… too tired…
