Setting: Apocalyptic earth in the 22nd century, with few humans remaining on the planet, as aliens from beyond our known galaxy have been steadily conquering mankind after they had accidentally awoken an ancient deity of destruction. Earth is now a warzone plagued by bloodthirsty extraterrestrials, and only a handful of humans are left alive to fight back, norably including the game's protagonist, Sam Stone.

Character background: The "Desert Marauder" (no name given) is a former soldier turned survivalist in the Egyptian deserts and fallen temples of Nubia, who speaks in the manner of a Biblical prophet, his story chronicling his survival through several audio logs. He sounds very weathered, but with a stillness and authority to his voice, think of something similar to Joshua Graham from Fallout: New Vegas. As such, he speaks with a certain unwavering conviction, and each log ends with him asking a question to the listener, indicating a lesson to be taken from his words.
