Ayame is a 21-year-old journalist who has had a pretty rough life. When she was young, her mother had many abusive boyfriends. One, specifically, was not only emotionally abusive but physical as well. Ayame felt fed up one night and killed her mother's boyfriend while he was beating her mother using his own gun he kept in the house. She was only seven years old at the time. Her mother, already a druggie, became detached and killed herself. Ayame was sent to live with a distant Uncle after coming home from reformatory and therapy and hearing the dreadful news. She has grown up to be a strong, independent young woman who won't take shit from anybody (especially a guy.) She's used to chasing down the "big stories" and being in the face of danger much to the distress of the cops who are annoyed with her to no end. When she is nearly ran over by Hotaru while running across the street chasing a suspect for a local investigation, she is amazed by not only his tenacity and air of mystery, but also his attitude and "stupidity." She becomes enamored with him and the other strange things she sees, writing personal stories about them. She is kind, brave, daring, snarky, and her own person entirely. She has no weapon except for her gun and her intellect.

She is very vocal about her opinions and scream-y.
(Narration) It is not in ourselves that we should seek resolution. The only way we can know the truth is if we go out into the world and find that truth we desire. There's no ethereal being to sit there and graciously spoon-feed us answers. Work hard and you shall find. Don't waste your time with tears and dreams and magic. There is nothing other than this dismal life, this world we people have ruined and turned into a useless, savage dimension with no future. There is nothing beyond our existence. This is what I believed to be true for most of my entire life.
(Ayame's thoughts as she's walking home. She slowly becomes more creeped out as she thinks.) Ako worries too much. I'll be fine, right? But then again...maybe she's right. I mean, someone could possibly kill me if they wanted to. It's not like I really know how to defend myself. I took one martial arts class when I was in high school. I'd put up a good fight, but I don't know...maybe I should start carrying around something for self defense, like a knife or...? (She hears rustling.) Oh god, what is that? This place is usually deserted. Maybe it's nothing. (She hears it again and slowly approaches it.) Hello...? (A cat jumps out at her and she screams.) (She is embarrassed/angry that Hotaru, who she has never met, just saw her get scared by a cat.) I'm sorry, did I ask for your opinion?! Well, I didn't expect it to be there, anyway. I thought it was, I don't know, some crazy person or something. Anyway, I've never seen anyone hide so well in the shadows before. Is that a hobby or are you just naturally that creepy?
(Explaining to HOTARU, informative.) I've been looking for similar murders to the ones Katsu performed here: murders of girls who have committed crimes. I haven't found much, but I figured that if there was something recent, either it would be in the media or the police would be hiding it away. I asked my friend Ako to get some information for me.
