- Kaji is the definition of the smooth ladies man. Arriving in Tokyo 3 alongside Asuka, Kaji has had a past relationship with Misato Katsuragi that ended horribly. He still thinks very fondly of her, but still uses every chance he can to tease her, Ritsuko, and even the young Shinji Ikari. He's an alcoholic just like Misato, but unlike her he actually has hobbies. Like gardening.
- Kaji takes on a bit of a mentor role in 2.0 for Shinji, showing him a new perspective on his caretaker however behind the scenes he's secretly helping SEELE, and Gendo Ikari at the same time. Something that doesn't end well for him.
