Midnight Pals: The Tale of the Strangers on a Train
Canavan Connolly for Guy
Minor role (6 lines). Co-protagonists in Highsmith's Strangers on a Train (perhaps better known in the form of Alfred Hitchcock's film adaptation), but only actually appears in a post-credit scene with Bruno that is a parody of the ending of Some Like it Hot, in which Bruno wants to ride off into the sunset (by train) and get married. Old-timey 1950s mid-Atlantic movie star voice. A little naive and a bit of a himbo. Perhaps, but not necessarily, an impression of Farley Granger as Guy in Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train.
Guy and Bruno are being represented by Highsmith using snails on a train set, but this character is the human Guy in the world of the story itself, played straight until the last line.

So, Bruno, now that we've gotten away with the perfect murder, what do we do next?
(CONCOCTING REASONS HE CAN'T MARRY BRUNO, WHICH BRUNO SHOOTS DOWN ONE BY ONE) Oh no you don't! I can't marry you! (BRUNO ASKS WHY NOT) Well, for one thing, we're both men, and it's the nineteen-fifties! (BRUNO SHOOTS THIS DOWN. GUY COMES UP WITH ANOTHER EXCUSE) I have a terrible past. I murdered a man's father for no reason. (AGAIN) I can never have children.
(GIVING UP. THIS IS THE REAL REASON, BUT GUY DIDN'T WANT TO ADMIT IT) But you don't understand... (REVEALING HIS TRUE SELF) I'm a snail!
