KEL'S MOM is first seen yelling at KEL when he first returns to his house, over what took him so long to complete his errands. However, she shows surprise and concern when she realizes SUNNY is with him, causing KEL to take advantage and run upstairs to his room. She shortly proceeds to call KEL downstairs when POLLY arrives, saying she is there for KEL. When KEL decides to leave to look for BASIL, KEL'S MOM asks them to come back soon. After KEL and SUNNY leave, HERO arrives back from college, is informed that KEL and SUNNY are out looking for BASIL, and leaves to find them.

Later, in the night, HERO, KEL, and SUNNY arrive, having saved BASIL from drowning, though unbeknownst to KEL'S MOM. KEL'S MOM proceeds to lament her cold dinner, but is convinced to be happy that HERO is back from college, by KEL'S DAD. When SALLY starts crying, KEL'S MOM proceeds to go upstairs. After changing her diaper, KEL'S MOM goes back downstairs, where HERO suggests that he, KEL, and SUNNY visit SUNNY'S HOUSE. Upset that HERO is not spending time with her, KEL'S MOM reluctantly agrees after KEL'S DAD takes HERO's side, and making HERO promise to wash the dishes with her for the next week. However, she is still not happy about it. HERO fixes this by buying her flowers. KEL'S MOM accepts them gratefully and apologizes for her earlier actions, telling the group to keep hold of their friends because they are harder to make the older they get, causing KEL to reply about the depressing tone in the statement. KEL, HERO, and SUNNY then proceed to leave the house.
