Gintoki Sakata is the main character of Gintama and will be the focus of a fan animation. Gintoki is a very unique character. He has a lot of range and interesting, quirky things he does with his voice.

In Gintama’s Japanese dub, he is voiced by Tomokazu Sugita, so he has a low baseline that fluctuates a lot between deadpan and overly reactive. He can be very immature in his behavior as well, but serious when it counts. He speaks casually and shortens just words (ex: “got to” becomes “gotta”). It is important that the role is a good translation of his vocal mannerisms into English and not based too heavily off of previous English dub voices he has had. His is a voice that needs to be listened to beyond a brief clip or two, because of how varied it can be.

In this fan animation, Gintoki will be hitting on a female character. He is familiar with her as either a close friend or his girlfriend, but often hits on her as if he is meeting her for the first time. Her profession is writing erotic romance, and she often writes fanfiction about in-universe knock off versions of popular anime characters, her favorite being a facsimile of Kakashi Hatake from Naruto.

Gintoki gets jealous and does not understand why she sometimes spends her time doing that instead of giving him an excess of attention that he wants/whines for.

  • [Flirtatiously] Hey there, strawberry girl. Have I met you somewhere?

[Note: They are incredibly familiar with one another on a long term basis, but he hits on her like he is trying to pick up an attractive stranger.]

  • [Sly, a little eager] Are ya gonna keep writing about that freaky stuff, or do you wanna do the real thing?

  • [Disbelief, slight annoyance] S-seriously?! What’s so great about a fictional character? I’m right here! Believe it! [Abrupt switch to exhausted, whiny tone] What kinda troublesome girl are you?
