The melody is the high piano part, but you don't have to sing that high. I tried to compose a for all vocal types. Feel free to sing in the 3rd octave if you have a lower vocal type.
The pre-chorus should be sung in head voice; however, if you want to try belting, I would be okay with that.

An interesting take. Odd tempo changes, harmonic minor, breathy to belting back to breathy. Has some grunge influences as well. The pitchy parts added rawness and such color. That was a cool story you told.
